Street Dreamers by Pedro Rivas Lopez
Vendedores ambulantes falling into concrete jungle tombstones
too often
We hear in the news the violence on Our people
Our Soñadores del Mundo fall
Blood on the ground and another pinche up to no good gets away robandonos from our sueños and leaving little brown boys and girls waiting for mama or papa to come home from work
Bang another one shot dead
Lorenzo Perez from Fresno could have been mi apa or su ama, your uncle or your grandpa who left their motherland behind in search for that American Dream
Soñado of a better tomorrow pero persinandose every day on their way out the door
Now it makes sense why momma always told us to persinarnos
They’re out to get us
They want us dead and gone
Today in 2021 it’s loud and clear
Pero fuertes y poderosos somos like the revolutionaries from our native lands
we stand juntos
together we got to fight back and dismantle this system one piece at a time
The future depends on our collective force and should be fueled with love for humanity and a deep passion to make shit right and stop with the bullshit
White black or brown, can’t we just be humans who care for our neighbors
break bread and celebrate the richness of nuestras culturas
Life is too short
Stop with the killing
Protect Street Vendors for they are Dreamers just like you and I!
