Pal Norte

I banged my head up against a wall during my father’s absence- when he’d make his trips to el norte, back when I was still 4 years old. She waited for the day you’d come back and provide us with good news; A golden ticket we awaited to move to that dreamland you talked about, so we’d chase our dreams. Como monarcas volando through the night sky, my mother embraced us and held on to her faith as she locked the door to our humble home in Mexico one last time and didn't look back; our journey as immigrants began as we sacrificed everything for the possibility of attaining our dreams. This piece is dedicated to all immigrants who have left their native land in search of a better tomorrow.
