To find oneself and gain an honest understanding of what freedom is, how it feels, and what it does to the human spirit is life altering. Unfortunately this is a privilege versus a human right. As I paint this San Francisco cityscape, me recuerdo what it was like being a little closeted brown boy selling oranges in the streets. That was the beginning of the labor that, thanks to my Apa and Ama, propelled me to begin the journey towards working for my freedom. Fresh Immigrants laboring to claim their freedom. Today I paint to be Free and encourage everyone to continue fighting for Justice so this Freedom isn’t a privilege but rather a human right. Let’s claim our Freedom!
